One of the most popular attractions in Gatlinburg, Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is a great choice for families looking to keep kids occupied. Everyone can have fun at Ripley’s Aquarium in Gatlinburg, spending hours learning and exploring the underwater world. There are regular dive shows, where you can watch divers swim amongst the sharks and sea turtles! This year, Ripley’s Aquarium has a mermaid exhibit where you can see real mermaids swimming at 12, 2 and 4 p.m. daily.

Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.

  1. Wonderworks

Wonderworks

If your kids love hands-on activities, then Wonderworks is the place for you on any rainy day. You can step into the Earthquake Cafe and learn about the 1989 San Francisco Bay Area earthquake, while reliving the shake of an earthquake at a magnitude of 5.3 on the Richter scale. Or stop by the Bed of Nails exhibit and test your courage as you lay on a real bed of nails. For younger children, the Bubble Lab is an exciting exhibit. There’s thousands of bubbles of all shapes and sizes that can be made in this area, from tiny dime-sized bubbles to bubbles that wrap your entire body. Kids love spending the day at Wonderworks, and there’s enough to keep you busy for the entire day!

  1. Titanic Museum Attraction

Titanic Museum Attraction

When you drive through the area, you can’t miss the huge Titanic museum attraction in Pigeon Forge that sits directly on the Parkway. Rainy days don’t affect this attraction at all, and it’s fun for everyone. If you have very small children, it may be better to visit Ripley’s Aquarium or Wonderworks, but this attraction is ideal for teens and adults!

When you visit the Titanic attraction, you become one of the ‘passengers,’ and have the chance to walk through the museum attraction and explore all of the artifacts, while learning about your ‘passenger’ along the way. You will be able to stick your hands in ice-cold water, just like the water the Titanic would have sank in, and you can try to stand on sloping decks. This is the only attraction in Pigeon Forge that lets you re-live the experiences of the Titanic to truly understand the lives of the passengers and crew. You’ll stand amazed at over 400 artifacts, worth nearly $5 million.

The Titanic museum attraction is open daily, running tours every hour on the hour, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
