Here are 3 great places to take your dog while staying at our pet friendly cabins in Gatlinburg TN:

dog hiking in smoky mountains1. Gatlinburg Trail

The Gatlinburg Trail is one of two walking paths in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park where visitors can walk dogs. This trail extends for 1.9 miles one way from River Road in Gatlinburg to Sugarlands Visitor Center. The relatively flat path runs through the forest along the west prong of the Little Pigeon River and offers spectacular views of the river. The trail eventually crosses the river at a pedestrian bridge and provides the opportunity to view the foundations and chimneys of multiple old homesites. Note that dogs must be on a leash at all times within the park, and the leash should not exceed 6 feet in length.

2. Oconaluftee River Trail

The Oconaluftee River Trail is the other trail in the Mational Park that allows dogs and is a bit further afield in the town of Cherokee, North Carolina. However, this can make a fun half day trip for you and your pet as you drive through the gorgeous scenery along Route 441! The Oconaluftee River Trail runs for 1.5 miles one way from the Oconaluftee Visitor Center to just outside the city of Cherokee. It runs along the Oconaluftee River and features beautiful river views, so be sure to bring your camera! Although there are a few small hills along the path, the trail is relatively flat and is considered an easy hike. While at the Oconaluftee Visitor Center, don’t forget to visit the museum that tells the story of life during the early days in the Smoky Mountains and explains the development of the National Park!
