Sometimes packing is the hardest part of vacation. It’s hard to choose what to pack, especially when you have no idea what you really want to wear! There’s so many questions that probably run through your head while you pack, too. How many outfits do I need?

We have been watching families come and go for years, so we know exactly what you need to pack, and exactly which items people tend to forget. We don’t want packing to stress you out, so use our list to double-check your bag before you load them in the car!

What to Pack for the Car

Any documents you will need to check in to your Gatlinburg cabin rental. It is best to pack these items somewhere in the car, so you don’t have to dig through your suitcases to find everything.

Sunglasses or hats. Even in the winter months, the sun shines bright in the mountains. This way, no one in the car has to deal with sunlight in their eyes.

If you’re on a long car ride, keep kids entertained with games, music and books. Headphones are great for road trips, so the kids can listen to their own music while you drive.

Snacks are perfect for car rides. Pack a few things to munch on, and keep them handy. Anything that isn’t eaten in the car will be perfect for keeping in your cabin rental in Gatlinburg. With snacks comes trash, so make sure you have a small trash bag and maybe even some baby wipes for keeping small hands clean.

If you plan to make any stops along the way, you may want to have your camera on hand. If you’re coming to Gatlinburg from the Cherokee, NC side of the mountain, you will have a beautiful drive along Newfound Gap Road. There’s many pull offs, so you can get out of the car to stretch your legs and take a few beautiful pictures of the Great Smoky Mountains, too.

What to Pack in Your Suitcase

Make sure to pack plenty of weather-appropriate clothes for your trip. If you are planning on hiking, you’ll want to have hiking boots and a backpack for your trip. Click this link for more information about hiking in the Smoky Mountains: http://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/hiking.htm

Don’t forget your swimsuit either. Many cabins have hot tubs or swimming pool access, and it’s a great way to relax at the end of the day.

Many people forget to pack the chargers for their electronics. If you forget your chargers, they can cost anywhere from $10-$20 at a convenience store. That’s an easy cost to avoid, too.

Our cabins come equipped with a washer and dryer, so pack detergent and dryer sheets if you plan to do a couple of loads of laundry.

List of Extra Items to Pack
