When you think about Ober Mountain in Gatlinburg, what likely comes to mind is skiing and snow activities. However, this Gatlinburg attraction offers plenty of fun in the warmer months, too! From summer tubing to scenic rides, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this time of year. Here are a few of the top things to do at Ober Mountain in summer that you won’t want to miss!

1. Summer Tubing

Even when it isn’t covered in snow, the tubing hill at Ober Mountain offers an exciting activity for all ages! In summer, you and your family will love trying Summer Tubing at this Gatlinburg attraction! You and three other riders can race down one of four 250-feet-long lanes at thrilling speeds. The lanes are made of a slippery synthetic material, so you’ll feel the same sensation as sliding down snow but without the cold!

2. Downhill Mountain Biking

Downhill mountain biking season starts in mid-May at Ober Mountain! The chairlift will carry you and your bike up to the top of the mountain, allowing you to avoid exhausting uphill climbs. You’ll then zoom down the trails surrounded by the beauty of nature! Bikes, helmets, and pads are available for rent if you don’t have your own. If you’re new to downhill mountain biking or you want to fine-tune your technique, you can sign up for a lesson with experienced instructors!

3. Alpine Slide

The Alpine Slide at Ober Mountain is a favorite thing to do in summer! In operation since 1976, the Alpine Slide provides an exciting and unique way to glide downhill! Ride the Scenic Chairlift to the midway point where you’ll disembark. Then, climb aboard one of the sled-like carts and use the lever to control your speed as you wind through 1,800 feet of parallel tracks! Race your friends to see who’s the fastest, or take your time and enjoy the scenery as you descend.

4. Ice Activities

Ober Mountain has a massive indoor ice skating arena that provides the perfect escape from the summer heat! Beginners and advanced skaters alike can grab a pair of skates and glide around the smooth ice. If you want to hit the ice in a more unique way, take a spin on the Ice Bumper Cars! These round, colorful tubes have wheels and motors so you can maneuver around the ice with ease, smashing into other cars or just spinning around in circles!

5. Tennessee Flyer

Another great downhill ride at Ober Mountain is the Tennessee Flyer Mountain Coaster! Enjoy the view as you ride the relaxing 1,000-foot ascent to the top of the mountainside. You’ll then be in control of your own speed as you wind down the 2,750 feet of track! Go at full throttle for an exhilarating ride, or use the brake to go slower and take in the views. This mountain coaster travels through turns, dips, corkscrews, and zig-zags for the ultimate family experience!
