The Reagan family, one of Gatlinburgs most historic families, began building cabins around 1925. At the time, Otha Reagan worked stripping tanning bark in the Sugarlands area of what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and his wife, Emma, was a weaver at Arrowmont. In 1923, Otha and Emma had saved enough money $500 to be exact to purchase five acres of land on the Roaring Fork Creek where Brookside Resort is today. Just a few years later they began building small cabins and chicken coops on the property to rent to men who were in the area building the road from Newfound Gap to Clingmans Dome. These cabins were built with timbers from the Roaring Fork School House and Church, and some were built from log homes moved straight out of the National Park. Many of the Reagan family's ancestors were even born in these cabins!

In 1971, Gatlinburg Southern Building Code required the remodel of nearly all the buildings in the area to a Bavarian type of exterior, so the Reagan cabins were updated to conform. Not too long after that in 1980, all of the original cabins and chicken houses were moved to their present location in picturesque Emerts Cove by a local river hangout called the Flint Rock Swimming Hole. To make a few larger cabins to accommodate larger families, two of the original cabins were placed on each side of a concrete slab to form a bedroom and a bathroom, and the middle was built to form a living area. Don't worry, though, the cabins haven't lost any of their history. Rumor has it that old chicken feed bags from the cabins earliest years have been found in their attics! Todays owners, Beville and Lisa Reagan, are proud to bring a little piece of their familys Gatlinburg history to your Gatlinburg vacation!

Keep your eyes peeled because you just might find the legendary Davy Crockett wandering around Crockett's Coonskin Cabin! This amazing four bedroom, two story cottage will sleep up to 18 people. Downstairs offers 3 bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, and 3 bathrooms. Upstairs is a loft area with 6 double beds and 1 bath- perfect for the kids! Crockett's Coonskin also has a full kitchen, a spacious living area with a wood burning fireplace. This Cabin can be rented along with the other Brookside Resort cabins to accommodate large gatherings. Indoor fireplace in operation Oct thru March

The cabin was everything it was advertised to be. The staff was very helpful and responsive. The pictures online do not reflect that there is a campground right outside the deck of the cabin. That would have been nice to know.

Everything was great except the beds. They are much too soft! The kitchen was very well stocked and we loved the big porch! We would like to come back in the future.

We really enjoyed our stay and have stayed in these cabins before. I would have given 5 stars except that we came into a dirty kitchen and had to do a thorough cleaning of countertops, sinks (meat in drain), refrigerator exterior, and greasy trash can lid before unloading.

We have been staying with Parkside for over 10 years and have always enjoyed the experience. We have noticed recently at the cabins are not as clean as they once were, don't know if they switch cleaning people or what happened. Always outstanding service and the people are great to deal with. We will stay with them again.

You responded to our requests for items needed at the cabin. Everything was very clean and the beds were comfortable. We STRONGLY feel that enough firewood be left for a full three and a half day stay! We have a fire going from about 7:00 am to 10:00 am. A fire is a highlight of our time together.

It was fantastic everything about it - the location ( on the stream) the rooms - the washer dryer was a good surprise also ( not listed on website) we had plenty of room for all of us and wish we could have stayed longer -the front porch with the rockers listening to the stream ( I do wish it had a flood lights on the side of the house of the stream ) due to us up before daylight (lol)plenty of bathrooms with lots of towels and wash rags - very clean we will remember this for a long time and definitely be back to the same cabin Crockett’s coonskin is Great! And the price was perfect thank you very much we enjoyed every moment .

There were several things wrong with the cottage 540 at Greenbrier when we arrived but Parkside was quick to send a maintenance man and to deliver items we requested. Great response time. The biggest problem is the queen mattress in the bedroom to the left of the front door is very uncomfortable. Mattresses in other downstairs bedrooms and upstairs are very comfortable but the one I mentioned is terrible. This year we celebrated our 20th annual trip to that cabin. We hope there's a different mattress in that room next year. We used to stay at Greenbrier the first or second weekend in November. We are disappointed that Parkside is closing that cabin on Nov. 1.

We bring the whole family down annually and as usual, we had a wonderful stay. There were 30 of us this year and we rented two cabins (540 & 542) We really enjoy our housekeeper "Annie" who is always there to make sure we have everything we need. If all goes well, we plan to be back next year.
