The Reagan family, one of Gatlinburgs most historic families, began building cabins around 1925. At the time, Otha Reagan worked stripping tanning bark in the Sugarlands area of what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and his wife, Emma, was a weaver at Arrowmont. In 1923, Otha and Emma had saved enough money $500 to be exact to purchase five acres of land on the Roaring Fork Creek where Brookside Resort is today. Just a few years later they began building small cabins and chicken coops on the property to rent to men who were in the area building the road from Newfound Gap to Clingmans Dome. These cabins were built with timbers from the Roaring Fork School House and Church, and some were built from log homes moved straight out of the National Park. Many of the Reagan family's ancestors were even born in these cabins!

In 1971, Gatlinburg Southern Building Code required the remodel of nearly all the buildings in the area to a Bavarian type of exterior, so the Reagan cabins were updated to conform. Not too long after that in 1980, all of the original cabins and chicken houses were moved to their present location in picturesque Emerts Cove by a local river hangout called the Flint Rock Swimming Hole. To make a few larger cabins to accommodate larger families, two of the original cabins were placed on each side of a concrete slab to form a bedroom and a bathroom, and the middle was built to form a living area. Don't worry, though, the cabins haven't lost any of their history. Rumor has it that old chicken feed bags from the cabins earliest years have been found in their attics! Todays owners, Beville and Lisa Reagan, are proud to bring a little piece of their familys Gatlinburg history to your Gatlinburg vacation!

Keep your eyes peeled because you just might find the legendary Davy Crockett wandering around Crockett's Coonskin Cabin! This amazing four bedroom, two story cottage will sleep up to 18 people. Downstairs offers 3 bedrooms, each with a king-size bed, and 3 bathrooms. Upstairs is a loft area with 6 double beds and 1 bath- perfect for the kids! Crockett's Coonskin also has a full kitchen, a spacious living area with a wood burning fireplace. This Cabin can be rented along with the other Brookside Resort cabins to accommodate large gatherings. All guests of Brookside Resort Cabin Rentals do have access to a separate complimentary laundry facility as well.

We absolutely loved this cabin, this is our 8th year staying on this property. We never want to leave. The cabin is clean and feels like home. Everyone is so kind and always just a phone call away. We will see you next year.

Cabin was nice and fit our needs, loved the location and access to the water. We had a slight mouse problem that's it.

There were several things wrong with the cottage 540 at Greenbrier when we arrived but Parkside was quick to send a maintenance man and to deliver items we requested. Great response time. The biggest problem is the queen mattress in the bedroom to the left of the front door is very uncomfortable. Mattresses in other downstairs bedrooms and upstairs are very comfortable but the one I mentioned is terrible. This year we celebrated our 20th annual trip to that cabin. We hope there's a different mattress in that room next year. We used to stay at Greenbrier the first or second weekend in November. We are disappointed that Parkside is closing that cabin on Nov. 1.

We bring the whole family down annually and as usual, we had a wonderful stay. There were 30 of us this year and we rented two cabins (540 & 542) We really enjoy our housekeeper "Annie" who is always there to make sure we have everything we need. If all goes well, we plan to be back next year.
