The Reagan family, one of Gatlinburgs most historic families, began building cabins around 1925. At the time, Otha Reagan worked stripping tanning bark in the Sugarlands area of what is now the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and his wife, Emma, was a weaver at Arrowmont. In 1923, Otha and Emma had saved enough money $500 to be exact to purchase five acres of land on the Roaring Fork Creek where Brookside Resort is today. Just a few years later they began building small cabins and chicken coops on the property to rent to men who were in the area building the road from Newfound Gap to Clingmans Dome. These cabins were built with timbers from the Roaring Fork School House and Church, and some were built from log homes moved straight out of the National Park. Many of the Reagan familys ancestors were even born in these cabins!
In 1971, Gatlinburg Southern Building Code required the remodel of nearly all the buildings in the area to a Bavarian type of exterior, so the Reagan cabins were updated to conform.

Not too long after that in 1980, all of the original cabins and chicken houses were moved to their present location in picturesque Emerts Cove by a local river hangout called the Flint Rock Swimming Hole. To make a few larger cabins to accommodate larger families, two of the original cabins were placed on each side of a concrete slab to form a bedroom and a bathroom, and the middle was built to form a living area. Dont worry, though, the cabins havent lost any of their history. Rumor has it that old chicken feed bags from the cabins earliest years have been found in their attics! Todays owners, Beville and Lisa Reagan, are proud to bring a little piece of their familys Gatlinburg history to your Gatlinburg vacation!

Afternoon Delight is a delightful two bedroom cottage that features one bedroom with a king-size and another with a queen-size bed. The Cottage is also equipped with a full kitchen, and a living and dining area with a flat screen. Afternoon Delight can be rented with the other Brookside cabins to accommodate large groups. We've stayed at the Brookside cabins for many years, however, I will say that although the cabin was generally clean the attention to detail is lacking -- dusty window sills; top of refrigerator dusty & greasy, top of microwave greasy. Also, needs to have an inventory and replenishing of kitchen dishes, flatware, etc. There were no glass casserole type bowls to use in the microwave. We only had one cereal bowl, but more were delivered after we reported it. Office staff is very friendly an accommodating.

Lighting is poor but acceptable. Back door to porch sticks VERY badly and there is concern of damage to the door or floor when opening. Bed in river side room is like an elephant sat in the middle as it had a very big dip in it and needs to be replaced.

For us this was an excellent location, private enough away from the hustle & bustle, but close enough to go for dinner. The creek alone outside was worth the stay. The cabin was older, but we were warned & could tell by the description, yet we still enjoyed all the space inside & outside that was similarly priced to a hotel room without the space.

The cottage was great, only thing I wish y’all had WiFi available for the cabins. The cabins are in an area that gets extremely poor reception so it was difficult to plan while at the cabin.

We had a great time and have stayed in Cottage 540 every fall for over 20 years. This is the first time we stayed in a smaller cabin. Here are a few suggestions: 1. The cabin porch facing the river had not been swept and the furniture was not clean. Before we could use the chairs, I had to wipe them down. 2. The interior was pretty dusty. The floor was OK but there was lots of dust on louvered doors. One of the closet doors is off its track. 3. The lighting in the house is pretty dim. Brighter bulbs and more lamps would help for people who want to read. 4. Since it was a cold week, we would have liked some wood on the porch.

The cabin was clean, adequate, well equipped. The setting is the most beautiful we have ever had on our many trips to Gatlinburg. We were in Cabin 491- and it is next to a river, when a creek falls over rocks into it. Gorgeous. We thank our grandson, J.B.Curlee, for working with you and helping us reserve this sie.

We stay with you all the time! The only complaint I have is the dusting and cleaning..I own my own cleaning company so maybe it's that I expect to much but the cleaning could be better!! JS

Wonderful location and amenities ... exactly what we were looking for on our first trip to the Smoky Mountains! Been meaning to reach out. The only thing wrong was that our credit card, used at your facility and only at your facility on our trip, was compromised with unauthorized charges and had to be re-issued. Not sure if it's related to your organization or not, but I did want to bring it to your attention.

We have been staying in your cabins for several years. We usually stay in the big cabin, this year we had two smaller ones. The cabins are always clean. The kitchen is well equipped. Love playing in the stream. It's close to trails for hiking. The best part, it's far away from the craziness of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. We go there for the peace and quiet, and sharing time with family. Will definitely be coming back again and again.

Love being on river. Beautiful setting. Screens need fixing in living room, kitchen and front bathroom.... Many trespassers were walking in on property to swim in river....they sat on picnic table outside our cabin and even parked in the driveway of our cabin...a little unsettling. Overall we found it very relaxing and enjoyable.
