Returning This April: Music of the Mountains

Do you love mountain music? If so, you can’t miss one of the best annual musical festivals in the Smokies. The Music of the Mountains festival in Gatlinburg is returning for the 10th year as a tribute to the history of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and the music the mountains inspired.

Performances begin Friday, April 25 and will run through Sunday, April 27. The Smoky Mountain festival kicks-off on Friday at 7:00pm with a concert of Celtic music by the Good Thymes Ceilidh Band. Admission to the concert is $5 and will be held at the Great Smoky Mountain Heritage Center in Townsend.

On Saturday, the Smoky Mountain festival continues with free performances at Sugarlands Visitor Center. From 10:00am through 4:00pm, the park staff will hold programs with a special concert at 1:00pm by the Roan Mountain Hilltoppers. The world-famous band will play until 2:00pm.

Boogertown Gap will also lead a special Junior Ranger Program at 1:00pm in the Sugarlands Training Room, where kids can learn how to play the washtub bass and spoons. In the evening, Outta’ the Blue will be performing bluegrass music outside the plaza at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies from 7:00pm – 8:30pm.

Sunday afternoon, Music of the Mountains will be heard at the Smoky Mountain Visitor Center in Cosby. General admission is $4. The program will feature Appalachian religious music, and there will even be an old fashioned community sing along from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
